Marine Carpenter in WPB / Stuart, FL / Traveling workshop???

by ka4wja » Wed Dec 24, 2008 11:23 am

Last year I read somewhere here, that a gentleman ran his business of marine repair / refit / etc. from on board his boat, and he traveled along the US East Coast (summer up north and winter in Florida), thereby allowing him to tie alongside the boat we has working on......

He had his boat outfitted with a complete workshop / machine shop, and some here commented on his excellent work.....

(I've done a few searches and cannot seem to find the thread....)

Well, I'm looking for a good marine carpenter to remove countertop and lockers in the galley, allowing a rebuild of the frig/freezer boxes (with LOTS of good insulation), and reinstalling said cabinetry........
Although, I was planning on doing the boxes / insulation, myself, it's possible, I'd have him do the entire project......

I can do a LOT on board myself......I majored in physics, and made my living in electronics for the past 25 years.....I'm also an excellent mechanic and can do fiberglass work fairly well.....
BUT, I'm fairly inept with finish carpentry.......(frankly I suck at it!)
So, I'll need to hire a good marine carpenter.....

1) Anyone know who I was refering to above, please let me know his name and how to get in touch with him....

2) Anyone have a recommendation for a good marine carpenter in the West Palm Beach, Stuart, Ft. Pierce Florida area, please let me know that as well....

Thanks to all...

Fair Winds and Merry Christmas!!!

You are referring to Cameron Murray of Transmarine Pro. He operates off of SV Tranquility.

John,

We have a guy over here that’s one of the best cabinet makers I’ve ever seen. West Virginia boy. He works out of his truck. And he’s cheap 25/hr. Only problem you may have is getting him into Sewell’s point without a gazillion dollars worth of liability insurance. If you’re interested yell and I’ll put him in touch.

Regards,

Chris

Thanks for the rapid responses.....

It'll be a month or two before I ready to tackle this project, but now I have the info.....

Although he IS the guy I was asking about, It appears that Cameron of TransPro, is more of a mechanic / systems installer, rather than a finish carpenter.......so, I think I'll be looking further....

Everyman, I'll zip you a PM......Thanks!!!

Oh, and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
